Fairy Meadows: The Gem of Gilgit Baltistan

Fairy Meadows is in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region. It is famous for its green plateaus and the towering Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest peak in the world, often called the "Killer Mountain." This beautiful meadow sits 3,300 meters (10,826 feet) above sea level in the Diamer District. It features vast grassy plains surrounded by thick alpine forests. Glacial waters from Nanga Parbat, which rises to the south, nourish the meadows. The name "Fairy Meadows" was given in 1953 by Austrian climber Hermann Buhl, the first to reach the summit of Nanga Parbat. Locally, people call it "Joot," while German climbers call it Märchenwiese, which means "Fairy Tale Meadows."
