A hidden paradise, Sheosar Lake!
Sheosar Lake (also known as Shausar Lake) is a lake located in Deosai National Park, in the Gilgit-Baltistan province of northern Pakistan. It is situated at a height of 4,142 metres (13,589 ft). Sheosar Lake is typically reached by jeep in 4 to 5 hours from Skardu, and it may take about 8 hours to cross the Deo Sai plateau. A jeep safari from Satpata Lake in Skardu is the most expeditious option for DeoSai.

Diverse Wildlife
Sheosar Lake is home to a variety of wildlife, including migrating birds and unique fish. Keep your eye peeled while exploring the area, and you may catch a glimpse of a rare Himalayan Monal and Brown Bear.
How to get there?
The lake is accessible through two routes. One route is via Skardu Valley, and the other is via Astore District. The road through Skardu can be covered by jeep in a few hours; however, if trekked, it can take 2 days. The second route is from the Astore District. From the main Astore town, it takes about 4 hours’ jeep travel through a semi-metal road to reach Chilim, the last residential area adjacent to the plains.
What to do there
Sheosar Lake offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages and interests. Here are some of the things you can do at the lake:
- Camping: You can pitch your tent near the lake and enjoy the starry night and the crisp air. You can also have a barbecue, a bonfire, and a tea at the campsite. However, make sure to check the weather forecast before camping, as it can change quickly. Also, pack some warm clothes for the night, as it can get very cold.
- Photography: Capture the beauty of the lake and the surrounding mountains with your camera. The lake is especially photogenic at sunrise and sunset, when the colors of the sky and the water change. You can also take pictures of the wildlife, such as brown bears, ibexes, marmots, and golden eagles, that inhabit the Deosai National Park.
- Fishing: You can try your luck at fishing at the lake. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including trout and carp. You can bring your fishing gear or rent some from local vendors. You can also cook your catch at the campsite or the nearby restaurants.

Where to stay
There are no hotels or guest houses near the lake, so camping is the best option for accommodation. You can bring your tent and sleeping bag, or rent one from the local vendors. You can also find hotels and guesthouses in Skardu, which is approximately 120 km from the lake.

Best time to visit?
Between November and April, the entire Deosai area is covered in snow. However, the area is full of natural beauty during the Spring and Summer seasons. During the spring, the countryside is covered with a wide variety of colorful flowers and butterflies. The best time to visit this comely lake is in summer, from mid-May to early September.
