The original name for this location was Ondra Fort, which was destroyed long ago due to unforeseen circumstances. The community volunteers worked independently and eagerly to construct these stairs. This project aimed to promote the archaeological heritage of Upper Hunza because there used to be a famous fort there.

This is the highest and longest trek, providing a unique 360-degree view of the lovely Gulmit village. From this spot, you can see the mighty cones of Passu, Sheshper Peak, Gulmit Tower, Ghulkin Village, and Attabad Lake.

Ondra Poygah is an initiative of the Gulmit community, built in a record 60 days in winter 2020/2021. With a length of around 4 km and rising to an elevation of 1560m, Ondra Poygah is Pakistan’s longest and highest staircase.
