During this one day Taxila tour you would be able to explore the following archaeological site from the Gandhara civilization:
Taxila Museum:
Taxila museum is located at the center of all the archeological sites and is a good place to start your Taxila Tour. This museum holds more than 7000 artifacts from the Gandhara civilization. The museum holds sculptures from nearby sites, artifacts, coins, and also holds sacred relics of Buddha.
Dharamarajika Stupa and Monastery:
Dharamarajika Stupa stands out as the most remarkable of all the ruins in Taxila. It is said that this stupa was home to some of Buddha’s teeth and ashes, which, after excavation, have been placed in the Taxila Museum. Dharamarajika Stupa was built by Ashoka around the 3rd century BC.
Sirkap Ruins:
Sirkap city was built by the Greco-Bactrian king Demetrius after invading the area. This city matches the characteristics of Greek city grid plans. Many artifacts, including coins, were found in Sirkap, which show the influence of Greece on the region.
Jualian Monastery and Stupas:
Jaulian monastery dates back to the 2nd century. This monastery has a large stupa accompanied by 27 smaller ones. Jaulian suffered greatly during the invasion of the White Huns. These White Huns persecuted all the Buddhists in the region and damaged all the stupas and monasteries in the area.
Mohra Moradu:
Mohra Moradu is also a small archaeological site in Taxila located next to Jualian Monastery and Stupas. Most of the stupas from this site and other sites in Taxila have been shifted to Taxila Museum.
