Hunza Day Trip - Itinerary

Morning:

  • Begin your Hunza Day Trip by visiting the historic Baltit Fort, which sits atop a hill providing spectacular views of Hunza. The fort is more than 700 years old and depicts the culture and history of Hunza Valley. Hike back to the Karimabad Bazar, explore local businesses selling handicrafts, and taste local food at the Hunza Food Pavilion.
  • After discovering the Baltit Fort, visit the 900-years-old Altit Fort located above a cliff in Altit village. From the fort, you can see the majestic Karakoram Mountains, including Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, Golden Peak, and Diran Peak. Explore the old settlement of Altit village and interact with the local community.

Afternoon:

  • Enjoy the local delicacies such as the Grall (a local chapati served with Mulberry juice) or Molida (Hunza bread simmered in buttermilk/Lassi and served with liquid butter or apricot oil).
  • Continue the journey towards Attabad Lake, enjoy a thrilling zipline adventure above its turquoise blue water, and take a comfortable boat ride with mountain views in every direction. Visit the Gulmit Carpet Center, a place where a team of women-led entrepreneurs preserve local traditions through handicraft. At this carpet center, you will find handmade carpets, purses, and other woven products. Drive to Hussaini Suspension Bridge, a famous wooden plank bridge in Hunza. Hike to Borith Lake and enjoy a refreshing swim. The lake's water is salty. It is recommended to refrain from drinking it, and taking a compulsory bath after a swim is essential.

Evening:

  • Drive to Khunjerab National Park, the location where Pakistan meets China. Traverse the verdant meadows of Khunjerab Park and observe marmots and Himalayan Ibexes. This park is also the wildlife sanctuary of Hunza Valley. The Khunjerab pasture stands at an altitude of 4,693 meters and is the highest point the Karakoram Highway touches.
  • Drive back to Lower Gojal following the picturesque road. Along the way, stop near the Passu Cones and enjoy a warm cup of tea with stunning views of the Passu cathedrals. Drive back to Gulmit.
  • Your Hunza Day Trip ends with a beautiful evening in the tranquil environment of Gulmit village.
