Hunza Day Trip - Itinerary

Morning:

  • Begin your day exploring Hunza Valley by visiting the historic Baltit Fort, which sits atop a hill providing the best view of the region. The fort is more than 700 years old and depicts the culture and history of Hunza Valley. Hike back to the Karimabad Bazar, explore local businesses selling handicrafts, and taste local food at the Hunza Food Pavilion.
  • After the Baltit Fort visit, depart for Altit Fort, which is only 15 minutes away. The Altit Fort is also more than 900 years old and sits atop a cliff with mesmerizing panoramic views. From the fort, you will be able to see the majestic Karakoram Mountains such as Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, Golden Peak, and Diran Peak from the balcony of the fort. As you conclude the fort visit, explore the old settlement of Altit Village and interact with the local community.

Evening:

  • Take a local evening lunch and refuel for the rest of the day. Enjoy the local delicacies such as the Grall (a local chapati served with Mulberry juice), or Molida (Hunza bread simmered in buttermilk - Lassi and served with liquid butter or apricot oil).
  • After the refuel, continue the journey towards Attabad Lake, enjoy a thrilling zipline adventure above the turquoise water of the lake, and take a comfortable boat ride with beautiful mountain views. Visit the Gulmit Carpet Center, a point where a team of women-led entrepreneurs preserves the local tradition through handicrafts. At this carpet center, you will find handmade carpets, purses, and other woven products. Proceed to Hussaini Suspension Bridge, which is the most famous suspension bridge in Pakistan. Drive to Borith Lake and enjoy a refreshing swim. The water in the lake is salty, so make sure not to drink it and take a quick bath after the swim.

Afternoon:

  • For the afternoon, drive to Khunjerab National Park, where Pakistan ends. The park also hosts the China and Pakistan border. Traverse through the verdant meadows of the park and observe for marmots and Himalayan Ibexes. This park is also the wildlife sanctuary of Hunza Valley. This park also stands at an altitude of 4,693 meters and is the highest point the Karakoram Highway touches.
  • Drive back to Central Hunza following the picturesque road. Along the way, stop near the Passu Cones and enjoy a warm cup of tea with stunning views of the Passu cathedrals. Drive back to Gulmit.
  • Your Hunza Day Trip will come to an end with a beautiful evening in the tranquil environment of Gulmit village.
