The Chafchingol Pass Trek is a 14 to 17 days long adventurous and thrilling journey deep in the Karakorams. It covers the most rugged and least traversed section of the Karakoram in Shimshal Valley, Hunza. The high-altitude crossing approx. above 5000 meters, demands trekkers with good physical condition or prior trekking experiences.

The trek follows the shepherd routes to high pastures and promises a rewarding journey. You can experience traversing through the least navigated corridor of the Karakoram, witnessing the famous Sonia Peak while gaining insights into the Wakhi culture and meeting the local shepherds grazing their animals at highland pastures.

Chafchingol Pass Trek is also a great opportunity for trekkers to test their skills and stamina. The journey offers a raw and genuine mountain experience and is ideal for true nature immersion.

Brief Itinerary - Chafchingol Pass Trek

  • Day 01 | Arrival in Islamabad: The participants will arrive in Islamabad and be transferred to the hotel, where the team will gather for a trek briefing. Final check of the gears will be done while preparing for the journey ahead.
  • Day 02 | Fly to Gilgit. The participants will take a scenic flight to Gilgit, enjoying panoramic views of the Karakoram mountains. After arrival, the participants will settle in the hotel, preparing for a drive to the remote Shimshal village.
  • Day 03 | Drive to Shimshal Valley: The off-road drive to Shimshal Valley will begin. Participants will navigate through narrow gorges, cross beautiful Mulungutii glaciers, and witness high-altitude snow-capped mountains.
  • Day 04 | Trek Preparation and Acclimatization day: The final preparations for the trek will be done. Participants will also take a short trek in Shimshal Valley to acclimatize and adjust their body with the increasing altitude.
  • Day 05 | Trek to Zarthgarben: The group will begin the trek by navigating through a canyon close to the village. The route gradually ascends as trekkers reach their first milestone at Zarthgarben.
  • Day 06 | Zarthgarben to Jafar Washkh or Perchod Washk: The trek continues deep into the canyon. Participants on this day will pass through high-altitude grazing lands and glacier streams to reach Perchod Washk.
  • Day 07 | Perchod Washk to Warben: Participants on this day will enter the Ghuejerab region. Trekking alongside the Ghuejerab River, the group will arrive at Warben.
  • Day 08 | Trek to Chafchingol Basecamp: The trek typically ascends gradually from the Ghuejerab region towards the basecamp. The campsite provides impressive views of Sonia Peak, and participants find themselves amidst snow-capped mountains and glaciers.
  • Day 09 | Cross Chafchingol Pass and trek to Kuksil River: The group will cross the challenging Chafchingol Pass, the highest point of the trek, with impressive views of the surrounding Karakoram mountains. After the pass, the route descends towards Kuksil and with camping near the riverbank.
  • Day 10 | Trek to Dhi and drive to Gulmit: The last section of the trek will be completed from Kuksil to Dhi. From here, the group will drive to Gulmit village.
  • Day 11 | Rest day: Taking advantage of the free day, the group will rest and recover from the long Chafchingol Pass Trek.
  • Day 12 | Explore Hunza Valley: Taking advantage of the contingency day, the trekkers will take pleasure in exploring the culture, traditions, and nature of Hunza Valley.
  • Day 13 | Fly to Islamabad: Appreciating the beautiful mountains of Gilgit, the trekkers will take a delightful flight to Islamabad.
  • Day 14 | Fly back home: Our team will transfer the trekkers to the airport for international departures. Bidding farewell, the Chafchingol Pass Trek will conclude with unforgettable memories of trekking in the isolated part of the Karakoram.

Refund Policy :The refund will be processed based on the time of cancellation and services already acquired. A certain amount will be deducted from the payment such as non-refundable amount paid to third parties or amount used in acquisition of trek permits. Read more details at refund policy.

Initial Deposit, Book Now and Pay Later: To confirm the booking an initial deposit is required which is 20 - 25 % of the tour / trek price. The remaining payment can be paid closer to the trek dates or upon arrival in Pakistan.
