At the arrival of spring, the Wakhi community celebrates the joyous communal festival of seeding. The celebration features irrigating the fields after a long winter, cleansing the water channels, and performing the traditional festival of Tumang, during which the entire village gathers at a place where the Shogun tribe in Gulmit ceremonially initiates the first irrigation of the season, after which the rest of the community begins watering their fields. A special local delicacy known as Semn, a wheat dish, is also prepared for the festival.

Day 01: Fly to Gilgit and Drive to Gojal Valley

Begin the Hunza festival tour from Gilgit Airport. Take in the gorgeous views as you drive past Danyor, Nomal, and Nagar Valley. Arrive in Gojal Valley and explore Gulmit village. As the evening approaches, retreat to your hotel and relax for the day.

Day 02: Join the Shogun Bohor Festival

Take part in the Shogun Bohor Festival celebrated each year in Gumit Gojal, Hunza. Experience a festive atmosphere as the entire village gathers at a field near the polo ground in Gulmit. Witness the Shogun tribe of Gulmit performing the rituals. It is widely believed that three brothers, Bori, Chorshumbi, and Mamut, were the first settlers of Gulmit. Each year, Bori was blessed with a successful harvest. Since then, the ceremonial initiation of irrigation in Gulmit has been performed by the Bori tribe, with the belief that it will bring a prosperous harvest.

Watch the ritual Tumang, a ceremonial ox-ploughing of the field. See the elders in traditional white attire, a distinctive round hat paired with a white overcoat woven in sheep wool. At the end of the ceremony, join the community as they sit together to enjoy the local delicacy called Semn, which is specially prepared for the festival. At the end of the Shogun Bohor Festival, bid farewell to the community and relax at your hotel.

Day 03: Shogun Bohor Festival at Ghulkin

Join the Shogun Bohor Festival at Ghulkin village. Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere where the local community comes together. Take part in the rituals and learn about the importance of Shogun Bohor festivals in keeping the villagers united. Each day after the festival, return to your local guesthouse for the overnight stay.

Day 04: End of Shogun Bohor Festival Tour
