Tegham Spring Festival Hunza
Tegham is a traditional spring festival celebrated in Hunza Valley. This festival marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of cultivation and irrigation in the region. People gather at a single place to celebrate Tegham Spring festival.
The main highlight of this festival are:
- A demonstration of seed sowing and harvesting by traditional means, using methods such as bullocks-driven plowing.
- A traditional dish called “Semn” which is exclusively prepared for this occasion.
- Participation in a unique event called “Tumangh”, performed specially on this day.
Although the festival is celebrated in every village across Hunza Valley but Gulmit, which is the headquarter of Upper Hunza, stands out with its particularly vibrant and lively celebration on this day.
To let you know, the Tegham spring festival is celebrated by the Wakhi people. They live in the upper Hunza Valley, called Gojal Valley. This festival is also know as "Shogun Bohor".
