Shimshal Pass Trek

Shimshal Pass Trek - Overview

The Shimshal Pass Trek is one of the most promising high-altitude trekking adventures in the Hunza and eastern Pamir region of Pakistan. The trek begins in Shimshal village and takes you deep into the Karakoram mountain range of Hunza. Located at an altitude of 4,735 meters above sea level, this highland pasture serves as a grazing land for the local Wakhi community for 6 months during the summers and is also known as the Shimshal Pamir.

Due to uneven terrains, the Shimshal Pass Trek demands good physical condition and prior trekking experience at an elevation of 3000 meters. Starting from the remote mountain village of Shimshal, the trail follows the Shimshal River, passes through Garsar, Arbob-Purain, and Shujerab to reach the Shimshal Pass.

The Shimshal Pass Trek features:

  • Amazing mountain landscape, Pamir Lakes, and high-altitude grazing lands and meadows.
  • Views of towering peaks lying on the Karakoram ranges, including the Manglik Sar (6050 meters).
  • Interactions with the local shepherds and community herding their animals in the vicinity.
  • A genuine mountain escape, trekking, and Yak safaris to one of the remote regions in the Hunza Valley.

The Shimshal Pass Trek is not merely a walk but is a deeply rewarding journey for adventure seekers. The trek is also a passage to one of the most remote regions in Hunza, where one can witness the resilience of the mountain peoples.
