Rakaposhi is the 27th highest mountain in the world, and it lies in Nagar Valley next to the Hunza Valley. This trek is relatively easy and features two camps.

  1. Hapakun
  2. Taghaphari (Rakaposhi Basecamp)

The first campsite is at Hapakun, 6 km from Minapin Valley. The second campsite is at Taghaphari (which is Rakaposhi Basecamp), located 8 km beyond the first campsite.

Day 1 and 2: Islamabad to Naran and Minapin Valley.

The first two days of the trip involves a drive from Islamabad to Naran, and then onward to Minapin Valley, from where the trek starts. Along the way, the following tourist spot lies:

  1. Shogran and Naran Valley
  2. Lulusar lake and Babusar Top
  3. Three mountain junction points.

Day 03: Trek from Minapin to Hapakun campsite.

  1. Hiking Time: 3 Hours Maximum
  2. Hiking Distance: Approximately 6 km
  3. Altitude of campsite: 2,012 meters
  4. Starting point: Minapin Nagar
  5. Ending point: Hapakun
  6. Trek Difficulty: Moderate or easy trek
  7. Night stay: In camps

The trek begins from a small village in Nagar Valley. This village is adjacent to Hunza Valley. The first day trek is easy. It takes just 3 hours to reach the first campsite, called Hapakun in the local language.

Day 04: Trek from Hapakun to Taghaphari (Rakaposhi Basecamp).

  1. Hiking Time: 3-to-3.5-hour trek.
  2. Hiking Distance: Approximately 4 km.
  3. Altitude of campsite: 3,300 meters.
  4. Starting point: Hapakun.
  5. Ending point: Taghaphari.
  6. Trek Difficulty: Moderate or Easy trek.
  7. Night stay: In camps

The second day of the trek starts from Taghaphari, which is close to Hapakun. Although the distance isn’t long, the steep incline makes it a bit time-consuming.

Day 05: Trek back to Minapin and drive to the Hunza Valley.

  1. Hike back to Minapin Valley.
  2. Drive to Hunza Valley.
  3. Rest day, to re-energize for the coming days.

Day 06: Hunza Heritage Tour, Visit Altit and Baltit Forts.

  1. Visit Baltit Fort and Hunza Food Pavilion.
  2. Explore the Karimabad bazaar.
  3. Visit Altit Fort and Altit Bazaar.
  4. Drive to the highest point in central Hunza, Duiker viewpoint.

Day 07: Upper Hunza, Gojal Valley Tour.

  1. Explore Hunza sacred rocks.
  2. Trek to Baskochi Meadows for the view of Attabad Lake.
  3. Drive to explore Gulmit Carpet Center and Ondra Poyga.
  4. Visit the Hussaini Suspension Bridge and zipline.
  5. End your day at Borith Lake.

Day 08: Khunjerab National Park and Pak – China Border.

  1. Pass through Passu Cones
  2. Enter Khunjerab National Park at Dee.
  3. Wildlife sighting including Himalayan Ibex and Marmots.
  4. Explore the Pak – China border and Khunjerab Meadows.

Day 09: Drive back to Islamabad.

Drive back to Islamabad.
