The K2 Base Camp Trek is a high-altitude expedition styled adventurous journey, leading you through the heart of the Karakoram Mountain Ranges via the Baltoro Glacier to the foot of the world’s second-largest peak, K2. Starting from Askole, a small Balti Settlement, via the Baltoro Glacier, the trail gradually immerse you in an environment dominated by massive Glaciers, snow-capped peaks, granite walls and some of the highest concentration of world’s towering mountains such as, Laila Peak, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, II, III and IV, Mustagh Tower, Trango Towers, K2 and many more.

The trek allows you to experience and feel the scale and majesty of the Karakoram, where you walk alongside glaciers, literal moraines, and sleep amidst Karakoram giants for days before arriving at Concordia, often referred to as “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods”.

Itinerary - K2 Base Camp Trek

Day 01 | Islamabad Arrival and Briefing on the K2 Base Camp Trek.

Upon arrival in Islamabad, meet our team members and travel to the hotel. Take a good rest and savor a delicious evening meal after the long journey. On this day, our team members will welcome you and brief you about the epic K2 Base Camp Trek. After the briefing, explore the beautiful capital of Pakistan. Get to bed early and ensure a good night's sleep before boarding an early morning flight to Skardu Valley with our K2 Base Camp trekking participants.

Day 02 | Board a Flight to Skardu.

Arrive at Skardu, where our team will welcome you and escort you to the hotel. You will be able to witness an aerial view of the majestic Nanga Parbat Peak on a clear day. On this day, the guests will have free time to explore Skardu city and the surrounding areas.

In case of flight delay or cancellation, the team will travel to Skardu Valley via road. The journey will pass through Naran Valley and continuing via Babusar Pass, the team will arrive and stay the night at Chilas.

Day 03 | Free Day in Skardu - Preparing for the Trek.

To help your body acclimatize with the increasing elevation, embark on a short yet scenic hike to Karpocho Fort with the rest of the team. Take pleasure in the panoramic view of Skardu city. To spend the day in a tranquil environment, visit Upper and Lower Kachura Lakes and drive further ahead to Soq Valley. Enjoy the peaceful settings of the area before driving back to the hotel for the night’s stay.

Day 04 | Drive to Askole via Shigar.

Begin the drive on the bumpy road following the Braldu River towards Askole, chit-chatting with the rest of the team. Pass through the famous Sarfaranga Desert and Shigar village before entering Askole. Upon arrival, savor a delicious meal prepared by our high-altitude chef. Askole is one of the most isolated villages in Baltistan. The village is a gateway to the Central Karakoram Park, and many great adventures like the Snow Lake Trek begins from this area. Here you can also experience a raw and untamed natural landscape. After exploring the village, spend the night in camps.

Day 05 | Begin the Trek to Jhola following the Braldu River.

Altitude: Approx. 3100 meters
Trek Distance: 19 - 20 KM
Total Time: 6-8 Hours

Embark on the most rewarding and strenuous journey, which takes you deep into the Karakoram Mountains. The first section of the trek is straightforward; the participants will hike through jeep tracks and experience walking on glaciated terrains and moraines. Following the Braldu River, arrive at the confluence of Braldu and Domordo River, after taking an evening meal, cross the river by bridge and hike up to the first camp site, Jhola (approx. 3100 meters).

Day 06 | Trek to Paiju alongside the Braldu River.

Altitude: Approx. 3400 meters
Trek Distance: 20-21 KM
Total Time: 6-8 Hours

On this day, continue the trek further deep in the Karakoram. Along the Braldu River bank, continue the journey towards the Paiju campsite. During the journey, you can witness astonishing views of the Trango Towers and other granite cathedrals. The trail will gradually gain some elevation, and upon arrival at the vantage point, witness mesmerizing views of Baltoro Glacier far in the distance. The Baltoro Glacier is 63 KM long and is ranked as the fifth longest glacier outside the polar region. Continue the journey further ahead to Paiju campsite and spend the night in camps.

Day 07 | Trek from Paiju to Khoburtse.

Altitude: Approx. 3780 meters
Trek Distance: 14 KM
Total Time: 6-8 Hours

Start your hike from Paiju camp. After trekking for almost one hour, enter the dramatic-looking landscape of Baltoro Glacier. The hike for the day is relatively short and offers stunning views of Trango Towers and Cathedral Peak. The temperature remains really high with no shades and covers from the sunlight. Ensure you carry enough sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the heat. Enjoy trekking alongside the Baltoro Glacier in warm temperature while our guides and porters make sure you remain hydrated throughout the journey. As you reach the Khoburtes campsite, enjoy the amazing landscape surrounding you. Throughout the journey, savor fresh food cooked by our high-altitude chefs.

The temperature will be very hot and very warm, with cool views of the glacier.

Day 08 | Experience Glacier crossing and arrive at Urdukus.

Altitude: Approx. 3900 meters
Trek Distance: 6 KM
Total Time: 3 Hours

The trek on the 8th day of the journey is very short. Following three consecutive days on the trail, the day finally offers a great opportunity to relax and enjoy stunning views of Trango Tower and Muztagh Tower up close. The participants will hike through glaciated moraines and rocky terrains to reach the Urdukus campsite.

Day 09 | Acclimatization and rest day at Urdukus.

Altitude: Approx. 3900

Enjoy a free day at Urdukus campsite and help your body recover and acclimatize to the high-altitude. Meanwhile, taking advantage of the free day, enjoy a warm shower, do laundry, and recover from the fatigue of the trek, familiarizing your body with the climate and temperature.

Day 10 | Trek from Urdukus to Goro II.

Altitude: Approx. 4,280 meters
Trek Distance: 12 KM
Total Time: 5-6 Hours

Begin trekking right across the middle of the Baltoro Glacier to Goro II. As you get closer to the campsite, you start getting the first glimpse of two of the 8000-meter peaks, the Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II, out in the distance. Also witness the Masherbrum Peak (7821 meters).

As you reach the confluence of the Baltoro Glacier and Young Husband, the temperature significantly drops during the nights. Here, the participants will camp over the Baltoro Glacier.

Day 11 | Trek to Concordia.

Altitude: Approx. 4,691 meters
Trek Distance: 12 KM
Total Time: 6-7 Hours

On this day, trek towards the Thorne Room of the Gods, also known as Concordia. This point is also the confluence of the Baltoro Glacier and the Godwin-Austen Glacier. This is the only place in the world where you get views of four of the 8000-meter peaks, including the Gasherbrum I, II, Broad Peak, and the majestic K2. After arriving at Concordia, get the best views of K2, providing the most exhilarating experience in life.

Apart from the majestic K2, find yourself surrounded by 6000 and 7000-meter peaks in every direction. Note that the temperature drops significantly and reaches freezing, it is recommended to bring along adequate cold-climate gears.

Day 12 | Trek to Broad Peak and K2 Base camp.

Altitude: Approx. 5,100 meters
Trek Distance: 19 KM
Total Time: 10-12 Hours, including return to Concordia.

Begin the trek from Concordia to K2 Base Camp. The day provides you with the opportunity to reach the foot of the second-highest peak in the world. Hike along the Godwin Austen Glacier, crossing crevasses and passing through glaciated moraines for 3 hours, and arrive at Broad Peak basecamp.

After a short lunch break, continue the journey onward to the Art Gilkey Memorial. This spot commemorates mountaineers whose lives were claimed by K2 and the surrounding peaks. A stone here displays plaques with their names. From the K2 Base Camp, you can enjoy magnificent views of the so-called savage mountain. After spending some time at the base camp, retrace back to Broad Peak or Concordia for the night’s stay.

Day 13 | Trek and Return back to Goro I.

After accomplishing the goal and enjoying good trekking days in the presence of such great mountains, begin the journey back. Following the same route, trek back to Goro I. Hike alongside the Baltoro Glacier, bidding farewell to the Karakoram giants surrounding you in every direction.

Day 14 | Trek to Khoburtse - Witness Trango Towers.

As you trek back from Goro I to Khoburtse, enjoy one last view of the towering granite Trango Tower. Following the Baltoro Glacier, making your way through glaciated terrains, descend to Khoburtse, where you will stay the night.

Day 15 | Trek back to Paiju.

Bid farewell to the Baltoro Glacier. Descend back to the Braldu River basin. As you trek down the glacier, the landscape becomes more and more stable. Following the Braldu River, hike back to Paiju. After trekking through barren landscapes, towering peaks, and glaciers, the appearance of trees at the end of the day comforts you with a sign of nearby civilization.

Day 16 | Trek to Jhola campsite.

Continue the journey from Paiju to Jhola, getting closer and closer to Askole village. The trek on this day is relatively easy and allows you to experience river crossing at some point. Upon arrival, a delicious meal will be served. One last night will be spent in the camps.

Day 17 | Trek back to Askole and drive to Skardu.

Complete the last section of the trek. Take a final stretch towards Askole. As you arrive at Askole, a delicious meal will be waiting for you. After lunch and a brief rest, drive to Skardu Valley, staying the night in comfort.

Day 18 | Rest and Recover from the Trek.

Take a full day’s rest at Skardu, helping your body to recover from the epic trek. Celebrate your accomplishment and appreciate this remarkable achievement that only a few choose to pursue.

Day 19 | Return to Islamabad.

Board a scenic morning flight back to Skardu. Recap all the good memories and new friends you made throughout the journey. Enjoy a farewell dinner with all the amazing people you had the journey with.

Day 20 | International Departures - Fly back Home.

Bid farewell to the group who started as strangers but have now become close friends and board a flight to your home country. End the K2 Base Camp Trek with unforgettable memories.
