Itinerary - Marsur Rock Trek

Departure from Skardu city to Hussainabad Village.

  • Begin the short and scenic trek to Marsur Rocks from Skardu city. After taking a delicious Balti traditional breakfast, drive through the heart of the city towards Hussainabad, a small hamlet in Skardu, which serves as the starting point of the trek. After reaching the village, make your way through the cultivated fields, where potatoes, wheat, and barley are grown, to reach the point where the trek begins.

Begin Trekking towards the Marsur Rock.

  • As you arrive at the outskirts of the village, begin the trek with a gradual ascent through rocky terrains and loose rocks. As the elevation increases, the scenery of the valley floor and the towering mountains surrounding the village in every direction becomes very impressive. As you reach the last section of the trek, the trail gets much steeper and demands more effort from you. Upon reaching the top, the trek provides you with the most expensive views of the Karakoram giants and the beautiful valleys lying beneath them.

Trek Towards Marsur Rock.

  • The trek begins with a gradual ascent along rocky slopes overlooking the vast landscapes of Skardu Valley. As you gain elevation, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with wide views of the valley floor, surrounding mountains, and the rugged terrain that defines this region. The hike usually takes around one and a half to two hours and offers a pleasant adventure for travelers who enjoy short mountain treks with rewarding viewpoints.

  • Marsur Rock Trek is a 3-hour-long hiking journey in Skardu. The rock has a striking resemblance to the famous Trolltunga rocks in Norway. Upon reaching the top, step carefully to the edge of the rock and capture some adventurous photos with the beautiful scenery of the panoramic mountains in the background. After clicking memories and enjoying a completely tranquil environment, reward yourself with a delicious packed meal, refueling for further exploration.

Trek back to the Valley Floor.

  • After spending the whole day at Marsur Rocks, begin the journey back, descending the same trail to the village. The downhill walk is relatively easy and requires 1.5 hours to reach the base village, but be careful on loose gravel.

Drive Back to Skardu.

  • Upon arrival, take a ride back to Skardu city. Conclude the Marsur Rock Trek at Skardu and enjoy the rest of the day at the hotel with beautiful memories of the trek.
