Itinerary - Snow Lake Trek - Hisper La Trek

Day 01 | International Arrival in Islamabad.

Arrive at Islamabad Airport and meet our guide. Our team will accompany you to the hotel, where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure and freshen up from the long journey. Here in Islamabad, meet other members of the Snow Lake trek, and if time allows, visit places in Islamabad.

Day 02 | Group Departure for Skardu.

Board the Skardu flight with the rest of the participants. On a clear day, enjoy the beautiful flight that provides the best scenery of Nanga Parbat and other snow-capped mountains from the air. Our guides will welcome you at Skardu Airport and transfer you to the hotel. Chill out and explore Skardu city.

Day 03 | Rest and acclimatization Day in Skardu.

The day will be spent familiarizing your body with the increasing elevation. A short hike to Karpocho Fort will be arranged. Enjoy panoramic views of Skardu and the surrounding Karakoram mountains once you reach the top of the fort. Meanwhile, our guides, porters, and other team members will make sure to finalize the trekking approval letter and make the final preparation for the trek.

Day 04 | Drive to Shigar and Askoli.

Begin the journey from Skardu Valley and drive towards Shigar. Following the Indus River, the group will pass through small Balti villages before arriving at Shigar. Along the way, visit the Sarfaranga Desert and learn about the Balti history at Shigar Fort. The drive will continue alongside the Braldu River towards Askoli, the last Balti hamlet, which is the gateway to Central Karakoram National Park. The group from this day onward will spend the nights in camps.

Day 05 | Trek from Askole to Namla.

20.60 K7 Hours Trekking

Start the journey towards Snow Lake. Following the K2 Base Camp route. As you arrive at the junction of Biafo Glacier, turn west alongside the Biafo Glacier. Following the glaciated terrains, continue the journey onwards to Namla. The group on this day will walk through low moraines and rocky terrains to reach the first campsite.

Day 06 | Namla to Baintha 22.65 KM.

After taking a breakfast rich in protein served by our high-altitude chefs, begin the trek right from the middle of the Biafo Glacier. The first section of the trek will be passing through loose rocks, low moraines, rubbles over the glacier. As you trek ahead, the rocky glaciated terrain will shift to an ice bed. The group will trek on the ice bed right from the middle of the glacier for 7 hours. As you get closer to the campsite, following our guides, exit the glacier and gradually gain some elevation to reach the Baintha campsite. Baintha is the most beautiful location to camp throughout the trek.

Day 07 | Rest day at Baintha.

On this day, the group will spend a free day at Baintha. This will help participants to acclimate their bodies to the increasing elevation.

Day 08 | Baintha to Karfogoro.

On this day, the group will enter the Baifo Glacier again. As you draw closer to Karfogoro campsite, you’ll be immersed with breaktaking views of white ice blankets, stretching endlessly as far as the eye can see. Approaching closer to the campsite, we will exit the glacier and make our way through a boulder field to reach the Karfogoro campsite. The campsite is located just beneath Snow Lake. The night will be spent in camps where our Balti team will entertain the group by dancing and singing songs, creating a joyful atmosphere.

Day 09 | Karfogoro to Snow Lake and Hisper La basecamp.

Time - 5 hours

On this day, the journey will provide you the opportunity to witness and walk through the Snow Lake, named by the first foreign trekker Martin Conway, in 1892 calling it the finest views of mountains it has ever beheld, and he does not believe the world can hold finer. The Snow Lake is a high-altitude glacier basin located at the basin of Hisper and Biafo Glacier and stretches 10 miles (16 KM wide).

From the outskirts of Snow Lake, the trail will gradually start gaining elevation. Here we will group together with tied ropes on each participant to cross the crevassed section. Upon arrival at Hisper La basecamp, witness a scenic landscape with towering peaks in every direction and the Snow Lake stretching 16 km beneath the camp. Apart from Snow Lake, we will enjoy stunning views of Sim Gang and Biafo Glacier as well.

Day 10 | Hisper la crossing and trek to Khanibiasa.

Time 7-8 hours

On this day, the journey begins with an ascent from the basecamp. As you approach the pass after two hours of strenuous trek, the terrain will flatten out. The view from an altitude of 5,100 is unforgettable, overlooking the Snow Lake, surrounding mountains, Hisper and Biafo Glacier. Participants will start the descent traversing carvases to the glacier floor. The journey will continue for 1 hour to reach Kani Basa, where the night will be spent.

Day 11 | Khanibisa to Jutmal

On this day, hike for 2 hours to cross the Hisper Glacier, along the way, the trail will provide you with mesmerizing views of Kanjut Sar (7,760 meters). After the glacier crossing, the group will finally witness patches of grass as they draw closer to the Jutmal campsite. Hike past small grassy fields, incline slopes, and glaciated streams to reach Jutmal campsite.

Day 12 | Jutmal to Shigham Baris.

On this day, we will continue the trek to Shigham Baris campsite. The trail for the remaining days continues through a similar landscape. The group will walk alongside Hipser Glacier, hiking through patches of grasses, boulder fields, and loose rocky terrains.

Day 13 | Trek to Bitanmal.

On this day, trek to the last campsite of the journey. The hike for the day will be much easier. You will pass through summer pastures to reach the Bitanmal campsite.

Day 14 | Bitanmal to Hisper Village.

On this day, complete the last section of the trek. After traversing through the rugged Hisper Glacier, filled with rubble and rock, arrive at the village where our team members will welcome you. Ride a 4x4 jeep and drive towards Karimabad, Hunza. After spending 12 nights in camp, enjoy a cozy night's stay at Karimabad.

Day 15 | Contingency Day at Hunza Valley.

Rest and recover from the long trek. To complete the trek, head towards Gojal Valley and spend time at Attabad Lake, Borith Lake, visit Hussaini Bridge, and Passu Cone before retiring for the night.

Day 16 | Fly to Islamabad.

Take the scenic flight back to Islamabad. Bid farewell to the Karakoram mountains on completing your Snow Lake Trek - Hisper La Trek.

Day 17 | International Departures.

Transfer to the airport and board a flight back home.
